Power running board maintenance

Hey All,

did a couple searches to see if I could find an obvious thread for power running board maintenance but didn’t find what I was looking for quickly...

anyway, what are you all doing for maintaining/lubricating your power running boards? I noticed my drivers side has a squeak it hasn’t made before so figured it was time to lubricate. I put mud flaps on and it gets washed regularly to keep the snow and salt off as much as possible. Now looking to lube the joints so hopefully I can ward off failure that seems common.

WD-40 I assume is too thin and may attract more crud. Grease I assume can’t be used because the hinges don’t disassemble (I assume, haven’t looked). Silicone lubricant on the pins the best option?

Not sure y it’s an issue on these new ones but I’ve had my expedition for 4 years now (2016) and not once had to lubricate the boards. Just keep them clean and free of dirt and debris when you wash it

Do a search over on the 3rd gen forum. Many use a motorcycle chain lube, especially those of us in the salt belt. The only issue I have had is the passenger side moving a bit jerky. Lubed it up and been fine since then. Good luck!

Sprayed the front hinges pretty liberally with Maxima Chain Wax, which is what I use on my motocross bike chains. Hasn’t cured the squeak. Though I just drove in the rain and it was gone. Guess I just haven’t gotten the lube where it needs to be...

I like Tri-Flow. It’s super light and can get into almost anything. They also make a pin point applicator so you don’t make a huge mess.

I second Tri-Flow. A professional bicycle rider turned me onto it years ago. Like Fozzy says, it penetrates anything.

Highway driving in heavy rain has "fixed" my drivers side that would half deploy and then come back up. I love tri flow for bike chains, going to give some Boeshield T-9 (also great ****) treatment to mine now because that is what I have on hand...

I am constantly power washing and lubricating my 2019 Expy. My neighborhood has a gravel section to get in and I have to wo maintenance often. I have learned that you need a "penetrating lubricant" to be effective so silicone will not work well over time.

I am going to try TriFlow next to see if it last any longer, than WD40

This! My nephew and his two beautiful children live down a mile of gravel road. That dust gets everywhere. I’m constantly having to oil the running boards.

I would not use wd40 as it is not a lubricant. Use automotive grease or lithium based instead.

I haven't experienced any issues with the running boards but just power washed the hinges, used Kroil, then Fluid Film Black for the first time. The black coating makes it look nice but let's see if it attracts any crud. I was considering PTFE Dry ****, then Fluid Film but maybe next time for comparison.

Here's a question. I know there are some folks on here with hidden search powers. Anyone know how to find the part with no part number here: https://www.tascaparts.com/v-2019-ford-expedition--platinum--3-5l-v6-gas/body--running-board

If you scroll all the way down to the power retractable running boards, you'll see part numbers 2 and 3, the front and rear caps. Anyone know how to find these? They have no part numbers and I just found a cracked rear one. I'm sure warranty won't cover it and there's no way you have to replace the hole damn step just for a cover. The fronts have part numbers but not the rears. Checked a few sites so far.

How can they Not be the same? The board is an extruded piece of aluminum, same dimensions from front to back. End Cap on Left front = right rear & Right front = left rear.

I have my trucks undercarriage sprayed with fluid Film every year. And have them hit up the running board hinges. Going on 3 years and no issues at all.

Not sure, a lot of things could be different, like the placement of screws, clips, etc. Even if they are the same, the least they could do is list the part numbers, or include that in the descriptions.
