The powered running boards do not return to the tucked position well when the temperature is below 30F. I keep cleaning and lubricating the pins, but it is still not sufficient for proper operation. I need to use my foot to assist in returning them to the travel position. Do I need to upgrade to high-torque motors?

Check out this video. I couldn’t get the MOPAR rust penetrant and used PB blaster from Home Depot. Trick is to really spray them, use a brush to clean out the grit and repeat that a few times.

I have had the same issue on my 2020 and found that a 3 step process works best. Do this when it acts up:

1.) Clean all the joints with a parts cleaner
2.) Spray widely available PB blaster penetrating catalyst into the joints and let it soak in for a few minutes....work it in by actuating the running board and helping as necessary
3.) Spray a bunch of white lithium grease in joints...work it in by actuating the running board

I live on a gravel road and I was worried about the grease attracting dirt, but I actually have found it actually protects dust, water, snow, and grime from getting into the joints. I was ready to rip these boards off but found great success with this method.

Hi, I had the same problem. I cleaned the hinge mechanisms thoroughly and used a “hack saw” blade in the narrow gaps. Then sprayed with WD40 several times over the next few weeks. Now that they are freed up I spray with “Rust Check” undercoating fluid every 2nd month.
