Purchasing a leased/rental fleet 17 exp Bronze Fire

I have looked at Expeditions for a long time to purchase on line. I found that my nearest dealer bought 3 at a dealer auction. Didn't want black but they have a Bronze Fire one coming. A 17 Xlt EL so I got a trade price and am now waiting on its arrival. The fax says its a leased vehicle but then it says it could be a rental. If it was a rental which I am not afraid of would it say lease vehicle at the top? its got 38K miles which I am not concerned about either. I just rented a 17 Limited with 55K miles and it drove like a new one. I put 2700miles on it and waited to turn it back in. I guess my question is can it be a rental and a lease both? And those of you that have a Bronze Fire how do you like the color?

Its not a bad color. Personally I'm not crazy about it monotone and wouldn't be a color I'd select, but on a King Ranch with the lower painted trim, to me its a great color combination.

A lease is a long-term rental, with certain liabilities attached, like maintenance and taxes. For a business that leases a vehicle, the lease cost is a tax deduction. "Titled as Rental or Fleet' is shorthand for "not privately owned".

Not necessarily, id think fleet vehicles are maintained better than a lease. Lease people often seem to be lax on maintenance since they don’t own the vehicle. The rental company owns it and maintaining it is in their best interest.

I bought mine with 33k miles as a fleet/lease vehicle as well. Mine came out of LA, and I'm nearly certain ALL 17s you will find from dealer only auctions (only available to ford dealers) will be fleet vehicles. Easy way to tell is if it has DRL since I believe that was a fleet only option. Mine has the 202a package as well, and I've seen many of these used as airport shuttles, which is how they rack up 30+ thousand miles in a years time. The Carfax won't show any routine maintence since I assume the fleet companies do their own oil changes. Warranty or repair work will be on a carfax though so if you don't see any of that it was most likely just oil changes.

Is it being offered certified pre owned by the dealer? With 38k miles, you are outside the 3/36 bumper to bumper but will still be under the 5/60k powertrain warranty. Certified pre owned will give you 7/100k powertrain warranty and 1 year 12k miles of bumper to bumper warranty with $100 deductible.

For reference, I paid 33995 for mine and it is CPO, 202a package 4x4 EL with HD tow package. The dealer I bought from had several and getting one with a moonroof would have added 1k to the price but I refuse to own a Ford vehicle with a moonroof knowing the failure rate and high replacement cost of that item.

My wife and I purchased a 2017 Expedition Limited demo with only 6000 miles. It had a great warranty and we purchased the extended warranty. Our dealership has these several times a year. Maybe look into a demo.

I've had corporate leased / fleet cars for the last 12 years. If you don't take it in for scheduled maintenance, you'll hear about it pretty quickly from the fleet management company. They actually make you change the oil sooner than the manufacturer recommends.

DRL is daytime running lights. If it's being sold by a Ford dealer with less than 50k miles, it's pretty much a guarantee they will certify it but if not, ask them to. I think it cost like 500 or 600 to cpo a vehicle, probably cost them less though.

Leased, or fleet vehicles, and $60k rental cars are usually not beaten, and are maintained quite well. The personality trait of someone who would abuse a rental is also someone unlikely to pay the rate for the large SUV rentals.

Its hard to determine whether it was a rental (Enterprise, National, etc.) versus a fleet lease, which could be anything from a limousine service to a company-provided vehicle to an executive. You could track it down by searching for the registered owner and then looking at what sort of business it was. If the Owners Manual is gone, it was probably a rental. They always snatch that out of the glove box for some reason.
