I have a 1999 expo XLT and the rear air does not get cold seems to be stuck in the heat. The front air works fine, extremely cold in fact. any suggestions? The truck has front and rear AC controls, unsure if its 2 different systems or just 1.

This happened to my 2003 and I had to replace the compressor.

This my understanding of the system (I'm not saying its rite). The front and rear AC run off the same system, I'm told it is only one compressor. If thats true it has to be a miscommunication between the temp control and the system somewhere. Does anyone know for sure if they have 1 or 2 AC systems?

It is all the same refrigerant system. There is a temperature blend door actuator in the rear that may be not working for some reason, or the blend door itself may have broken.

+1, my actuator door broke and the front ac would go from hot to cold and vice versa. I had that fixed and now the rear ac doesnt get as cold as the front ac now. I know my friend had a similar problem and it was his rear actuator door. As a matter of fact, this morning i was listening and i could hear coming out from behind the rear 3rd seat passenger side. Thats probably whats wrong with mine also. I gotta keep an eye on this thread.

My rear AC isn't working either. I had the rear actuator fixed (replaces stupid little plastic motor/gearbox) so I'm hoping it's not jacked up again. If so, I'll need to see if there's a way to just fix the door to full cold, never need heat in the rear anyway.

I was wondering if it was a single refrig circuit or 2.

When I bought my 98 last summer the rear air damper in the console was broke also. Rather than pay $70 for the controller I just opened the damper all the way and put a sheet metal screw in it. Now it works great and I always use the rear air or heat anyway so it's not a problem.
