Rear entertainment system (VCP 2002) shuts off LED screen when opening

Just picked up this used 2002 Expedition EB, 4.6, rwd

In trying to get the VCP and overhead rear (2nd row) entertainment system checked off as working.... I noticed that when the LED screen is fully down that I was not able to see the lights from AUX1 or AUX2 and the select did nothing and the LED screen was blank.

I finally noticed that if I just slightly open the LED screen to say 1/4 to 1/2 inch that in fact the LED was displaying either the VHS tape that was playing or the video from the accessory I had connected to the RCA jacks. Also, the sound was able to play through to the radio.

So it seems that the only issue I have with this system is that when opening the LED screen itself, it is shutting the LED off and it goes blank and the AUX light goes out...

Perhaps a bad connection in the LED screen to overhead? Thinking the next step is to unscrew the screen and look around there.

Any thoughts? Common issue perhaps?

Also, does anyone have the exact ford part numbers for the remote and wireless headphones? I already found the VCP / RES manual online but they only show those parts, not the part numbers.

PS... yes I know the VCP... would like to upgrade, but hey, I can add on a DVD or game system to the RCA jacks .... have to first make sure it works on demand

Well I found the flat flexible cable from led screen to box to have a serious crease... Lost continuity in the cable harness.... Eventually when I was looking it over, it cracked more.

The harness is labeled
sumitomo-m awm 2896 80c vw-1-f

Additional info is that it's a 22 pin, seems a 30v rating too, same side contacts, 1.00 mm pitch

Seems maybe some old info and online shops showed them for 40 bucks... Other searches come back with cables that are longer... But cheaper and a 60v rating.

Still kicking around the idea of buying the cheaper, longer, higher voltage rating cable...

well i decided to buy a cable from Digi-Key , part # hf22u-04-nd ... i bought 2 just to have a spare in case.... 4.50 each + 3 bucks in shipping and got 2 in days. www.digikey.com
I praise them as I called customer service and had a question about specs and they conferenced me into their knowledgeable, dialed in technical team.

it was about 1/2 inch longer, rated at 90v vs old one at 30v

I had been concerned about the last failure and a crease... therefore when installing, i used 3 felt spacers (like for cabinets) to give some space around the ribbon cable's area and it's bend. I think perhaps a shorter cable would be fine... much shorter than OEM.

Tested prior to final reassembly and mounting... perfect !

back installed .... now to watch all those b-day party VHS tapes from the 80's that where never transfer to DVD !

But seriously... next phase I may consider is to get the remote control, 2 wireless headphones.... or an update to DVD ( without having too much to re-wire )
