After reading all of this, I really miss my first (1 of 5) "dumb" solid axle 1997 4x4 Expedition XLT with 2/AWD/4hi/4low... My first 4x4, first SUV, and first real off-roading.
I'll post some pics one day, but factory it was the tallest one ever produced with real metal bumpers, I think.

I have been patiently waiting for a new Excursion. I think thats what you and I are looking for. I have been thinking about adding a four link set up to the Expy and go straight axle. Maybe on the Gen5. I love the Excursion conversions and they are now doing it to the AlumiDuty’s. But $70K-$120K is a lot, plus the price of the truck on top of that.

100%! First car I had was a 1997 5.4 XLT with 2/4A/4H/4L and 3.73 LSD rear. After adding K02's, that car could go almost anywhere stock. I was going thru 16"+ of mud. Limitations I found were the running boards, which i bent upwards, and the only time I got it stuck was getting it high centered in a deep mud pit (didn't see the hill as both sides were covered in mud/water).

It was crazy to watch the flatbed towtruck being pulled towards the stuck expedition when winching. Those were the days...

Is there any indication that the eSLD is engaging if you don’t have it locked? Possibly the off road screen? I have a 2wd w/ HD tow, so I don’t have a lock button.

lve wondered this very thing. Pretty sure mine was engaged this weekend when I kicked the ass end out going uphill from a stop sign with all the snow and icy crap here. I was having too much fun to notice any lights, but I did try and look.

I don’t think it will auto lock given a rear locker can actually cause drivability issues. However!!! It might auto lock if your in 4low under a certain speed or set a crawl speed etc.
