I am installing a rear view camera in my 2003 ford expedition that came with my new radio. It says to hook the red and black wires to the tail lights. But which wire is the red and which one is the black.

You want to power the camera with the power wire for the backup lights.

Remove the tail light and figure out which wire it is.

It's whatever color is going to the reverse bulb. Could be blue, could be purple couple be grey, could be any color...... You hook the camera red wire to whatever wire is the positive wire going to the bulb.

id rather have a "dash cam for rear window and front window " with lcd screen you could use it for backing up and so that way if anything happens at least it be on record hopefully haha say you get into accident and they try to say it was your fault when really it was theirs you could prove them wrong.id like to get cam for the front and back for mine way things are now days they might be really helpful and plus i heard it from someone that would help lower insurance rates idk if thats true

For anyone hunting the reverse circuit for the backup lights the wire is black with a purple/fuchsia stripe. This was easily the single most frustrating wire I had to hunt for. There is one from the steering column down but it does not provide 12V and will not work. Could not find one on the passenger side even though there should be one on each side in theory. This wire is in the bundle going to the plug on the drivers kick panel. This is the wire you'll need to turn the camera on when you go into reverse. As stated above. At the backup light the wire is black/pink (what's listed. Still sort of a purplish/fuscia) My black wire at the tail light looked more brown due to age and exposure. On the 2000 there is a void behind the light in the jack area. I went with a license plate camera to make things easier to start with. There is an opening behind the plastic trim in the bumper area. If you pull it out you can run the wiring up through there. There is a plug to allow access to the mounting bushing for the body to frame. I cut a slot and brough the camera wire and power wire through there, its all under the plastic trim holding the carpet in place. Video wire can easily be surn under the amp and in the wiring trough to the front. Take the passenger side tail light out. Pull the plastic plug the wiring is in and use your inline splices there. Push
the plug back in. This protects your split from water or forcing you to water proof it.
