I have having problems with the rear wiper. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The rear hatch and the rear window are both closed all the way. This is on a 2000 Expedition. Anybody else have this problem? Any ideas what could cause this? I don't want to have to buy a new wiper motor.

Yep, same thing happens here. Seems to work every so often. Actually, it "works" it's just it doesn't do the full trip. It usually gets stuck at an awkward angle. When you let some washer fluid out, it does do the two full cycles, then gets stuck on the way back.

I have noticed that sometimes it works normally when there is a heavy down pour. Maybe the extra water is lubricating it better?

I have just given up, and just hit the rear defroster, so the water just slides right off (RainX helps too :) )

Don't have rear defroster. Damn kids broke off both the tabs. Been meaning to get that fixed. Luckily the house we are renting has a heated garage that the Expy actually fits in. I have been a GM guy all my life, but at almost 100K on the meter, the rear wiper is the only problem I have had with this car. Gotta respect that. I guess I will bite the bullit and replace the wiper motor.

I had the same problem on both front and rear a while back. Took it in to have the dealership diagnose it for about $35 and they said both motors were bad. They wanted an arm, a leg and a nut to replace it. My wife and I bought the motors and replaced them in about 2 hours. We also have the '00 Expy.
