im sure everyone here knows about the typical rocker panel rust on their expeditions. after cutting out the rusted bottom of the rocker panel I sprayed some under coating in the gap then got some foam insulator and gorilla tape to fill the gap.

I plan on taking off the tape, smoothing it out, and painting over it

You do understand that type of repair allows you to move to Georgia or Alabama and be accepted as lost family...

And for the record that really isn't "Redneck". To be a true redneck repair you would have to use stolen road signs (deer crossing of course) or Anheuser Busch beer cans.....

Yea Com'on.....

lol stamp it was my understanding that if any repair requires duct tape or zip ties it was considered "redneck" and/or "hillbilly".

and Canadian expy, MAYBE it wasn't the best idea. but what would you do?

Nice! Just be aware that the foam has the potential to retain moisture, and can make the rust worse.

I would agree. I've actually thought of doing the same thing, but water tested the foam to bad results. It's kind of like a sponge. I would maybe just leave the tape on to see how it wears. Tires kick up rocks onto those quite often and it might eat right through the foam anyways

I would of left it or got new rockers...Sorry but like people say foams going to hold moisture and make things worst.
I 've got holes in my rockers also, so far just left it.

I found this online. This is a quick redneck fix. It took all of 1 hour to put it on. Now, I can get state inspected so they will renew my license plate. What do expect for less than $100.....e002fdbbade99c7879daabf2fe8a9256.jpg

I had an 02 tahoe with 1 foot x 5 " hole in the rocker. I wire brushed it and hit it with , I believe, rustoleum spray rust converter. Then I priced out tack welding vs. mig welding . mig welding would have been 400, tack welding was 20 bucks plus the cost of the sheet metal.

I had it tack welded, then carefully hammered it to form it. I had side steps plus side step molding to mostly cover it, then I ran a line of gorilla tape in-between the body and the molding and the repair was completely covered up. it held up for 3 Michigan winters after that and never got any worse.
