Hi,

I am interested in installing a generic remote start unit in my 2002 Expedition XLT. I have done some reading on the remote starters available and although they have many bells and whistles at the heart they all seem to be the same....you get a module with quite a few wires and need to patch those wires into the electrical system in various places (I know I'm oversimplifying).

My questions are:
-Is there a brand that is better or worse for expeditions, or fords in general?

-Does anyone know where I can get the wiring harness connector for expeditions? I believe this is a connector that goes into the existing harness and allows for connection without splicing/soldering.

- How do you get around the issue of the electronic chip key?

- Where can you get accurate wiring diagrams and instructions specific to expeditions? Most generic starters come with - no surprise - generic instructions, and unless you are very familiar with the type of car you are working on there can likely be a lot of guesswork.

I have pretty good electronic, electrical, and mechanical skills and knowledge but dont want to embark on something like this unless I am fully prepared and know the issues first.

If there is anyone who has personally done one of these - on an expedition - please send me a message.

Thanks.
