Hi,
The door trim on my 2000 looks like crap. I saw some 1 and 3/8 inch chrome trim tape. Looks like it would fit where the insert goes. I saw the post on how to remove the whole trim, but what about the insert? I have good paint. If I could remove the inserts, problem would be solved.

Door trim repair

I had the same issue with my 99 the chrome trim looked bad on 3 doors and was bubbling up on the drivers side.

Instead of preforming a complete removal I purchased 50 feet of aluminum foil tape from Wally world and with a little trimming I had all 4 doors looking like new in about an hour.

Before, After and side by side comparison pics are attached.

Thanks,

Thank you,
I seen foil tape at the auto store. I was wondering how that would work.
Mine is bubbled really bad. Afraid it would eventually cause problems. I've seen on another site that a heat gun will allow me to pull the insert out. The inch and 3/8 chrome is the perfect width. I would only have to cut the ends to fit. Also, the glue is covered by strips. Allowing me to test fit it before I attach it. It costs $18 a roll. Need two to do the job. Thanks for the reply. Still considering.

I bought a 98 a month ago with the same problem and it looked like crap. Was a real easy fix with the rolls from autozone. The insert slips right in, just cut each one a little long so the trim piece can fully overlap replacement. The rolls I bought had 3m tape as the backing.
I didn't need a heat gun to remove the old, I just wrapped a small flat head screw driver with a cloth to not scratch the paint and it came right off and used goo gone to remove the residue and a plastic razor. Looks great now.

I just bought a 98 Expy as well with horrible looking chrome trim that's all bubbled and discolored. So I actually can remove the bubbly vinyl mess or put the chrome tape right over it? I'd like to just remove the old chrome insert and put the new tape right on top of the plastic trim. Some more pics of the process or finished result of others who have done it would be awesome. Should I do chrome tape from Autozone or aluminum foil tape from somewhere else? Thanks!

F150cowboy: I went with the Crome rolls from autozone and it worked great. The insert is fairly easy to pry out, may have some tape residue that can be scraped off. I liked the roll from autozone because it is solid plastic that has a curved edge instead of being hallow like factory and looked really good in the slot. Ill try and post some pics later today
