removing roof rack

2001 expedition looking to remove the roof rack to give it a cleaner appereance.. anyone have any instructions? does it leave holes in the roof? if so what should i do to fill them. thanks

On mine, they were held by Torx screws (I think they were T20s). I think there's 4-5 per side.

This is what my roof looks like with the racks removed:

Yes, if you don't put the screws back in, there will be holes.

hey elvato i just took mine off thanks for your help but did you put teflon tape or anything like that back around the screws because im a little worried about leaks or did you just put the screws back in? thanks

I just put the screws back on. I think the little black things are little washers, or something.

Then again, I'm sure the Teflon tape wouldn't hurt.

how do you remove the front pieces that the front rails clamp into? do you have to hammer them out or what?

You could also leave the tracks of the rack there, just take off the cross bars. Thats how my EXP is. Just a thought!
