My head unit on my 2011 Expedition has not been acting right for some time. I would really like to replace it with a more modern aftermarket unit. I see lots of threads out there on the internet that talk about maintaining steering wheel controls. Is there anything that also allows you to keep the rear radio controls with an aftermarket unit as well?

Look at crutchfield.com - plug in your model, trim, etc. You can find compatible ones (and those that support android auto or carplay). On the details page for each unit, there is a pop up about install equipment and it will tell you if it will keep steeringwheel controls.

I did this in a 2012 (no longer have). I bought a pioneer unit from crutchfield - used the kit to keep steeringwheel controls. I don't remember rear audio - my kids were too young back then to fiddle with the controls :)
