Long story short... my truck overheated on a -6 morning while idling alongside the road.

When I got back in the CEL was on and the truck was in Limp mode. After a ride on the hook, I have my truck back home. Now it seems that it came out of limp mode when it cooled down, but the CEL is still on.

Is there a quick way to reset it without needing a reader???

You can disconnect the battery for 10 to 30 minutes this should clear the light Check you anti freeze as it is possible that you may not have enough in the system to protect you for the lower outside temps. Almost sounds like you had a coolent freeze problem

It's always a good idea to pull them before a reset unless it's a recurring code like a faulty sensor.

also, you can buy an obd II adapter for bluetooth or wifi ( android/iPhone respectively) for maybe $10 to $80 before shipping and they can give live data too. (they are a get what you pay for thing. and the cheaper ones are more flaky so by at your own risk, but the more expensive ones are more reliable)

if you don't have a basic reader, you should definately consider picking one up. While the idea that bigger (more expensive) is better, that is not always the case.

I picked up a bluetooth code reader for under $20 shipped and downloaded a free app for my smartphone. Lets me read codes, do basic monitoring of parametres in real time and clear codes. It is easily the best maintenance item purchase I have made for this truck so far.

Just google 'ELM 327', there are a tonne of different ones out there that will do the job.
