Just don't get the ones on ebay that are roof soffit aluminum. WAY too thin!
I have seen some better form fitted thicker ones, or get the best replacement ones and cut to what you need to want to install. I have seen some overlay ones that you take plastic sills off and lift carpet up and slide them in. You can use panel bond or rivets or even screws to fix them in place.
It don't have to be perfect to be a lot better than the rusted out ones. We have an 2000 that is bad too.

I a set I got from LMC truck, installed them October 15, and are starting to look bad again. I cut out some of the old metal, sealed the remaining rust, primed them, welded the new ones in, light bondo to fill the gaps/welds, primed and painted them. They were great for a few years, now stating to show their age...

TobyU - do you recall the brand of your slide-on ones? I don't anticipate the engine or tranny holding out long enough to make expensive body work worth it.
I didn't actually use them I just saw a video of them I believe on YouTube. There are quite a few on eBay too. Usually called slip-on. Just try to see whatever reviews you can or see if you can find some fairly thick ones because some of them are awfully flimsy.

Some are just window-capping aluminum coil bent in a brake, installed with Liquid Nails.
Yes, definitely read some reviews about them because you don't want the ones that are just thin aluminum that goes behind your gutters on your house. Does would be better than nothing and look okay but you really want something stronger and better corrugated to fit right over your existing ones. Then, whether you use adhesive, rivets, and some people even use screws to hold them on. Doesn't matter as much if they're fairly sturdy and fit properly.
