Roof Basket Mounting

I am looking at adding a roof basket. I have a 2013 EL. I would like something that is as long as possible if anyone has recommendations...something like a Yakima. I was wondering if there is a way to mount it within the factory roof rails like the way the OEM crossbars are installed? Instead of mounting the basket to the crossbars, I think if it were mounted within the rails it would look a lot cleaner. Thoughts???

So totally agree about the mounting between the rails.

I am supposed to pick up a 2010 EL next week and want to do the same thing.

I think I am going to have measure distance between roof rails and then find the rack that I like look at measurements of the rack for narrower vehicles (maybe an Explorer of some year).

Once I figure I What rack I like the look of that fits correctly then I’ll figure out how to in fact mount it.

Or find a good welder & have one custom built for you. It's going to be cheaper than a complete k9 roof rack system too.
