rough at take off and cuts out once driving at normal speed

i have a 98 Eddie Bauer expedition with 5.4...the other day it had a rough idle and sluggish on take off...the CEL came on had it checked,,number 6 CP was bad replaced it...ran great for 300 miles then all of a sudden when driving it would shift into second and around 30-40 mph it is sluggish and will cut in and out....changed the plug in number 6 as well and put in some good sea-foam injector cleaner...still same problem...problem is CEL will flash occasionally but not stay on so i can get it checked....HELP!!!

Check the plugs back toward the passenger side. These are notorious for failing due to coolant getting down into the boot. Just see if you can feel or find any spots that are leaking coolant.

There is a number of start / run cycles with no issues before the ecu will reset any codes stored. Dont recall it off hand... You can also reset them with code readers or disconnecting the battery but otherwise you should be able to read the code if the cel flashes occasionally.
