My 98 expedition all of sudden had been acting up. I'm not too surprised because it has 272,000 miles on it (mostly highway miles). but it is still very well kept and clean. I notice that my exhaust smells rich and my tailpipe is coated in black. But the more severe problem, is that at idle, my rpm will bounce back and fourth between 700 and 500 rpm. It used too idle just below 1000 and now, it nearly stalls out sitting in my driveway. I replaced the IAC valve and checked the vacuum hoses for the sound of a leaks, but i could not find anything. and the new IAC valve did absolutely nothing. Could it just be bad gas? Any help would be much appreciated.
