Running Boards

I have a 2003 Expy with factory black plastic running boards. Can anyone recommend a product to keep them black without making them slippery? I got sick of looking at them greying so I ran some Armor All on them the other day (what a mistake! - the running boards became really slick and impossible to step on safely).
Any help is appreciated!

Try going to a self-serve car wash and pressure wash the boards. The grayness may just be dirt, and the pressure wash will remove the armorall.

When I took delivery of my 1999 from the dealer, some dolt in the new car prep department armoralled my running boards. Next day it rained. I still remember the flop I took when I tried to exit the vehicle.

I used Spray 9 and got the Armor All off the running boards - and they are clean - but the black is "dull". I am looking for something to keep them shiny and black without the slipping.

There is a solution called Forever Black that may help with this matter. I use it on my VW gti bumpers and the like. Im not sure if it would get slippery or not as I don't usually stand on my bumpers but it does do a very nice job keeping things black.

86 the running boards!

Try taking them off, it looks way better without them! Suddenly your Expedition looks like an F150 super-cab with a cap. It's not hard at all, 8 L brackets (28 bolts & 16 clips alltogether) and 2 electrical clips (if yours are lighted) to take off and you're done. I have 3 preschoolers, and while most people say that's a reason why they can't take their running boards off, there's a big down-side to the factory-installed running boards: there was always dirt or water held on the top surface of the running boards, they would get smeared with it every time they got in or out. Now they need a little help getting in without them but at least they stay clean for church on Sundays!
