I would like to get some suggestions on how to go about selling an auto and increasing the chances of getting top dollar for it.
I THINK I'm about ready to buy a new vehicle and I'll likely want to unload my current 2nd auto which is a 1998 Expedition Eddie Bauer. I purchased the truck new in April of 1998. It currently has 130,050 actual miles, has been garage kept and has been meticulously maintained ...... never wrecked, no dings and absolutely no rust.

I could go on, but you get the picture. So, what is the process of selling an automobile like mine. A dealer would surely not be willing to give anything close to what I would want. I don't want to simply end up "giving it away" if at all possible.

If I were here, you would know it !
You local AutoTrader, Craigslist, or similar classified ads would be good starting points. And of course, there's always ebay motors (usually NOT scam-ridden like their other place called fleecebay !)

My brother has bought & sold multiple vehicles there without any problems, but usually the biggest obstacle is whether the buyer will come pick it up or you have to take it to them.... Sometimes a 3rd party transfer company can handle the transaction for you, but that service comes at a cost, which may or may not be realistic depending on the sale amount.

To give you some comparison. I bought a 2001 Expedtion XLT Sport 4x4 with 105,000 miles from original California owners. Obviously not a speck of rust anywhere.. original paint, no accidents for $7000. Is yours a 4x4? With your miles, if it's a 4x4, I'd ask $7k and take $6k? Maybe 6.5k.. I bet the dealer would offer $1,000.

Try Bring a Trailer. Just the place to market a vehicle of this age and in excellent condition. Many similar vehicles auctioned on this site weekly, but be prepared to invest some time and money on good photos, vehicle description and history, and answering questions from potential bidders during the auction. Somewhat of a PIA, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. They also have the resources on line to do market research by reviewing what past vehicles similar to yours have sold for on the BAT site. You may decide it is not worth the trouble.

For the record, I have never purchased or sold a vehicle using BAT, and have no affiliation with them.

Thanks to everyone!!!

Davey, I'm certainly willing to post a photo or two, but I get a message that the file size is too large. How does one shrink the photo file size so that it will be accepted?

Try checking the file size before attaching it by right-clicking on it & select "properties", which will then show you the file size in kb's/mb's.... generally, most boards like this one will accept attachments up to about 1-2MB, but it's better if it's in the 200-500KB size, which will allow for fast loading on the page...

If your image is very large, then you can downsize it in Windows Photos app first, then post it here...

If the image is relatively moderate sized already, when it's still in the "attach file" mode, click on it and then click on the "thumbnail" tab....that way only the smaller sized version of the image is displayed within your post, then anyone wanting to see the full sized version can click on it...

If you need additional assistance, just let me know :D
