I have a 2018 Expedition Limited with 2300 miles and got an error message showing Shift Sys Fault Service Required when I try to put it a reverse, neutral or drive today. I had to get it towed back home. Any suggestions on what may be going on?

I’ve seen this documented on some new f150s in regards to harsh downshifting and shifts sticking. Something about a transmission PCM update that neededto be done. I think it has to do with the fact the 10 speeds constantly search for what gearvthe truck “likes” to be in and if there is anything that occurs outside of the computers parameters it’ll throw this code as a “fail safe” so you don’t f it up

I think you are correct and thank you for your advice. The Expedition is still in service and possible outcome may be to get a new transmission. Seems like it is a common issue with the 2018s that they should recall.

Update: Ford ended up replacing the transmission after few weeks of troubleshooting.

Did they provide any detail on what the actual issue was? If they couldn't fix it with software updates, just curious if it was a bad valve body, etc, etc.

Taking mine in tomorrow for hard shifts into 3,7, and 9. Sometimes you can just feel it a bit, other times you think you hit a giant pot hole and hear a loud bang. Started at about 10k miles, progressively getting worse.

Sometimes in parking lots it bangs in to 3rd, then shifts back to first. Continues to do it unless you speed up or slow down.

Other than than that, I love it lol.
