Anyone upgrade from stock shocks to Bilsteins or better?

Curious about ride comfort, also would want a place to do it for me as well.

What would they improve all around ride? Not looking for a lift would keep stock but doing tires and maybe wheels as well.

You don’t have to “lift” it. There’s an adjustment collar where you can opt to leave them on the stock ride height.

Curious: I'm also watching this thread on suspension and have recommended the 5100s based on my experience with the Toy Tundra. Are the 5100s going to be effective with the basic suspension springs on the XLT (non FX4)? Are the springs on the FX4 any different?

If anyone has a link to part number explorer for Ford, I'd be interested in spelunking that to see if the part numbers are the same or different and if there are specs available

So far I haven’t seen anything that states the 5100s only work on certain trim levels. If the fx4 springs are different, the adjustment settings on the 5100s may be off slightly like they are between the Expeditions and f150s.

Example: 2014 4WD 5100s on and f150 give up to 2.1” of lift on max setting. But you put them on a 15-17 expedition and you get 4”. Different spring spring ratings. I would suggest the new expedition 5100s on stock setting to OP and call it a day. Should be a noticeable difference in ride quality and will give the option for a slight lift in future. (1.6” and 1” I believe)

FX4 should not matter.
I am not positive but I am pretty sure only the strut is different on the FX4 and not the spring.

The ride height (of each notch) on the 5100 is based upon spring rate not anything to do with the strut itself .

I put Bilstein 5100s on my 2019 XLT 4x4 and had them set to max height. Added 2" to rear and 1.6"to the front. I may back the rears down to 1.5". Ride is firmer but handling has improved. I understand the higher you set them the firmer the ride is.

I had normal Bilstein 4600s installed. Slightly stiffer ride but better handling and less floatiness, better towing.

Would Say I am looking for improved ride. Stock Shocks are very bouncy sometimes. I'd like to calm that down.

Troll on ;-)

I am really wondering how Van and SUV drivers are looking for a "sporty" car. My SUV should float (now with 275/60r20 and 37psi it does exactly this). However, I consider to finally lower and stiffen my Mustang GT which warrants much more a "sporty" claim. However, the whole "sports" car rub me the wrong way as only 1% of Porsche drivers really go to a race course. Public roads can't be a "sports" playground for many reasons other than claiming a status which is only there for egos....haha....

"Sport" together with cars is mostly just a marketing claim to make manly drivers feel better and has nothing to do with the sport of cars which is racing....it's just a badge to sell...

Troll off ;-)
