3000 mile oil changes haven't been needed since the 1950s when full flow oil filters became standard. This is a fraud perpetuated by places like Jiffy Lube and others simply to sell more oil, filters, and other services. Doesn't hurt the engine but wastes a lot of motor oil and money.
My 1966 (sixty six) Mustang owner's manual specifies an oil and filter change every 6,000 miles or 6 months which ever comes first. Motor oil chemistry has come a long way in the past 53 years.
