I bought my 2015 EL Limited two months ago in Fort Worth where it’s lived all it’s short life. I’ll be taking it to my Krown Rust Control station in Michigan in about a week to have it drilled and sprayed. I can tell the owner where to focus on in terms of trouble areas and he will drill a hole and spray extra for me but I honestly don’t know where they are on third gen trucks. If you have rust and you’re willing to post some pics of specific trouble spots, I’d be grateful. They drill and spray all the normal places, door panels, door sills, all body panels, rocker panels, etc, but if there are specific areas (like behind the third brake light or a roof rack mount area) that you guys in the rust belt have had issues I’d love to know.

Rocker panels. Krown has a great product and typically has specific places they drill for each car so I'm sure they've already got something mapped out for the vehicle

Rocker panels, rocker panels, and oh the rocker panels. Have them spray the inside and buy the rubber plugs for the upper factory holes. My truck has rocker panel rust starting toward the front end it’s all bubbling and the rear passanger wheel well the paint is bubbling as well. That you just have to trust ford on because anything sprayed there blows off with water jetting on it at 70 miles per hour. Both issues that i have can be seen on a lot of 3rd gens in NY.

Example i came across on FTE. This dude replaced his by making his own out of 16 gauge sheet. So here’s the rust pics your looking for. This is about worst case.

Sheesh. That’s downright freaky. I’m a Michigan boy and that still shocks me. Ok, so I’m going to just go ahead and replace my rockers with stainless ones haha.

Looks a lot like the rockers on my 08 Limited. Oh and the rear brake backing plates basically disintegrated from rust. Then you can throw in all the peeling paint on the aluminum front and back and you have a very pretty ride!! NOT!!!!

Well the one thing i do like about the way they rot is that nobody can see it. Mine are crappy too but nowhere near that. Whether you want to replace them or not is ultimately your decision, Is it ugly? Yes. Does it impede the vehicles function or driveability? Nope. The truck pictured above obviously isn’t near retirement, the exterior and frame are totally fine, so there is no reason to stop running it.

Also always good to get the whole frame sprayed it’s often overlooked because it’s thicker. this pic is of an 2006 Toyota Sequioa.

Mine has running boards so the chunks of rust that fall off sit on it and can be seen till you clean it up. Even my wife notices it. Not planning on fixing.

Fire Ants and Africanized Bee's don't like snow either, which is nice for us.
I do like Texas though! Bubba's BBQ, Cowboys, Deep Ellum, Austin, the list is BIG

(the one in Ennis)

snow is my second best friend ..

Snow is fine - it's the damn salt they spread so thick around us on the roads. The brine that leaves under your car does it in. A few times each winter I stop by the self serve pressure wash and just do the underside and wheel wells. Need to get those quarters out of the cupholders!!

Agree, it's the salt. I live in Michigan close to the lake and we get tons of snow. But the county trucks are very selective with where they put salt down. Typically it's a small patch at a stop sign, or on a curve. The rest of the time they use sand, or it's just a snow-packed side road and best left as-is. They are a lot more environmentally conscious nowadays. They used to lay down tons of salt everywhere, but not so much anymore. The result is that I have very little rust on my 2010 Limited...even the frame and rockers. All great shape. The key, though, is frequent underbody car washes throughout the winter, and letting it dry out in the garage, above freezing.

My son's 2001 Ranger XLT 4x4, however, is a different story. Cancer is setting in...
