hello i know im dumb but i dont have much money so i thought i would ask this question before spending out money that is not needed. my daughter has been driving my 1999 ford expedition and she said two days ago she thought the transmission was slipping but her boyfriend says he thinks it is the spark plugs needing changed is there any way to check to see which it is without taking to a mechanic i thought maybe taking to the advanced auto and let them run that engine check wouldnt that show up if a plug was miss firing

Is the check engine light on?

Most ignition related issues are caused by bad coil packs. This will usually throw a code (misfire in cyl #x) and trip the check engine light.

I'd also try to get your daughter and her boyfriend to describe exactly what was happening, how it sounded, felt, etc., not what they think the problem is.

Go have the codes read at Advance Auto or Autozone. If a P300 to P308 code comes up, you have a bad coil.

a bad coil would cause a lot of vibration, spark plugs wouldn't be the issue either, i think i know the feeling they're experiencing. sometimes when i'm on the highway and i let off the gas then get on the gas again, theres this slipping feeling. kind of like it's catching up to speed. iv'e felt it every now and then and i think it is the tranny, but haven't had any major issues
