Hey guys, I am trying to figure out how I can carry a full size spare tire in the Expy. It is equipped with 35" meats right now, and the parents never bothered to change the spare tire. I believe it is 16 years old. Lol. Anywho, can a 35" tire fit in the spare area? Or is there a way to secure a 35 in the cargo/hatch area? Those would be most convenient for me. If all else fails, I will have to go with one of those trailer hitch mounted carriers, or steel bumper with swing away tire mount. Any input is appreciated!

That's what I did with my truck. I figured that it would handle 90% of the on-road punctures that I may receive.

Why not just carry a plug kit and a 12v air compressor?

Yup, that's what I do. the plug kit rides in a small tool kit I keep under the back seat, so is always with me and ready to go. Just be sure you also have a valve stem tool, my last 3 slow leaks were not completely fixed by the plug (which is temporary anyway), the stem had backed off just enough to let the tire air down over time.

I'd hate to plug a puncture on the side of the road, especially in the deep freeze we are in right now, but I seriously doubt it would take much longer than changing a tire.

As far as 12v compressors go, is there a good brand of compressor? Or will any 12v compressor suffice? I believe the parts department at work has one or two, not sure of the brand though.

If that happens then you pull out your trusty phone and call your emergency road service you have been paying for. I use Good Sam's Emergency Road Service for my Motor Home and Cars........ 99$ a year and then I don't have to worry if the wife has a flat on the side of the road.............Gary

True, and sidewall punctures cannot be plugged either...

I don't plan on doing any heavy wheeling with it, but I would like to be prepared just in case.

Since the Expy is lifted, how the hell would I jack it up? Been looking at Hi-lift jacks, but I don't have any useable body armor for a good lift point, and the contact part on the jack is not long enough to reach the frame. What do you guys use?

They sell an attachment for a high lift that is two lines that hook onto your wheels so you can lift a corner up. Also there is a jack that's basically a balloon that gets inflated by the trucks exhaust to lift it. Both are really for trail use only.
