It only affects a small percentage of trucks.

It likely won't ever happen to yours if you play the odds. So you could be waiting for well...forever.

Too-few threads in the head is the cause, this has been known since the problem surfaced.

Thanks for the information!

I had never heard of it until I went to change a coil. I was looking for the cylinder order and was bombarded with what seemed like hundreds of people complaining about it.

I will quit listening for the big bang!

A small percentage of a million trucks is still a lot of trucks.

Make sure you torque them down correctly. not too tight, though.

This wonderful experience happened to me about 2 weeks ago. Cylinder 3 in my 5.4 2003 Expy. Had to drive about 10 miles on 7 cylinders. Sounded like a helicopter, drove like a moped. My buddy at work has a 2001 4.6 expy that had a plug shoot out too. I had to replace the coil pack as it was shattered from the rocket spark plug. I've replaced 3,4 coil packs, all plugs and found the boots/springs sold seperately at napa for the remainder 6 coil packs. 78000 miles and things be startin to fall apart. Cyliner 4 was misfiring originally due to water build up.

I hope you did a Time Sert repair for a few hundred dollars, and not the Ford-recommended pull-the-head-off repair that costs a few thousand...
