Hello all,

Around late this past February I took a hard right turn at an intersection and the truck immediately stalled. After that the truck would try to stall every time I tried to come to a stop. I disconnected the battery to reset the computer and everything returned to normal after the idle was relearned (although it seemed like the truck revved a bit more than usual when cranked since then)

All was fine until this past week, I've taken two 100 mile trips back and forth, the truck seemed to do well. Today I was on the highway for about 30 minutes (just got an oil change) and turned onto a back road. I had to take a pretty hard right turn again to dodge someone crossing the center line in a curve, and it Stalled and lost all power while going ~30 miles an hour. then it kept trying to stall when coming to a stop but would eventually hold steady.

I'm going to pull the battery again in the morning before I leave and hope it fixes itself like it did last time. Any idea of what would cause this? It reminds me of how the idle behaves rough after the battery is disconnected, except much worse. It will float around 100-300 RPMs and just die if I don't give it gas. It makes no difference whether the vehicle is in drive or neutral.

I replaced the IAC valve exactly a year ago because it was emitting a loud buzzing noise, so I don't /think/ that's the problem.

Thanks guys.

I don't see my signature showing up so I'll put it here: it's a 97 4.6 with 215,000 miles. I had a tune up (plugs, coils) at 180K

Sounds like something is shifting and grounding out or losing connection... The only thing heavy enough that comes to mind is the battery. Check to see if it's secured well? Start shaking things around under the hood, also check to see if you're losing fuel pressure when this happens if you could. Hard to so I know but do it if you can. If you do lose pressure It's probably related to the pump or its wiring, if not it's likely under hood electrical...

Get the truck on a lift and have someone turn the steering wheel on both directions while you watch all linkages underneath to check if any are rubbing on ground straps.

coil pack connection

I have had the most random misfire and it turns out the retaining clip to the coil pack was broken. Easy to test each one if the wire harnes comes off easily then it needs something to keep it on. I think best pactice would be a new engine harness but a dab of rtv is working for me. On outside of coil pack and not inside connection.

Thanks for the input all; an update:

I popped the hood the next morning and the clamp holding the battery was very loose and the battery had indeed been flopping around quite a bit. I resecured it and disconnected it to reset the computer.

I've driven probably 200 miles since and it seems to be idling and running better overall since before the first time this occured. It will be lifted for new tires in a couple of weeks so I will check under the truck then around the linkages.

I still am surprised that a loose battery could cause such a major issue, but if something was grounding out I guess anything is possible...
