Hey Guys,

I have a 1997 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer edition with 240K on it. With the engine running and in park or in any gear, I get resistance when I try to turn the steering wheel to the left or the right. I can get past the resistance with some arm muscle and the steering wheel and wheel will turn but I hit the same resistance point again once a revolution is complete. What do you guys think the problem is?

Here is a link to some videos I posted on drop box. Thanks.

Welcome aboard.

does your turn signal cancel work when driving? it sounds as if the scratch/clicking (hard to tell on your vids) is symmetrical almost like the canceling function.

are you the original owner? if not, any chance someone "wrenched" the steering column while locked and damaged anything.

sure others will chime in.

PanHandler.

Hey,

I am now the third or fourth owner. I have no doubt that the previous owner(s) have messed with this vehicle. I had to lower the steering column in order to replace the bushings around the shift tube and also replace the shift cable coming from the transmission, and connecting to the back of the shift tube. The truck only had one of the brackets holding one of the bushings in place on top of the shift tube. The other bracket was broken. The shift cable was also broken where it attaches to the golden bracket with torxs and the shift tube. The previous owner(s) had taped Allen keys around the rod portion of the shift cable where it attaches in order to make it stronger.

I finished the repair and bolted the steering column up with 4 bolts and retaining bracket. When I went to go for a test drive, I encountered this problem. I never removed the steering column. I just removed all the dash panels and lowered it.

Thanks for your help.
