steering wobble...

so would upper balljoints cause the wobbling in the steering? i am pretty sure i need to replace the uppers, lowers look pretty good. pitman arm didnt look bad so i didnt replace. thanks in advance for all the help you have been majik. you too blue, dont think i forgot! hahah

I think it could, but get to them before they go, if they go and your driving it will not be pretty, take it to an alignment shop, and I bet they will tell you they can not align it due to the possible bad ball joint or what ever is causing you your issues, then take it home, install the parts and have it realigned after to save some money.

1. We had a bad steering wobble in the ole ladies 4dr jeep back in the day... It ended up being from the lift... The nut on the steering arm kept backing itself off... Pinned that ***** and that was the end of it...

2. Much play in the steering box?

lift seems good to go, will double check. when wiggling tire, the whole center link seemed to have play so could be the steering box. i am really hoping that is NOT the case. due to the "pulsating" feeling coming from the right when it does wobble, i am wondering if the cv joint is failing and causing the whole half shaft to get all crazy, causing the wobble!

yeah, I could see a worn out or messed up half shaft causing some bad vibrations.

or we can find someone with a gopro camera and attach it to the underneath and drive around. see if we can find something. get an inside view on whats happening. could just be a little gnome running on the short shaft like a rats wheel. haha

i would def say jack up the front put the pry bar under the tire see if you have any up and down movement you can turn your tires to the far right/left and rotate by hand see if you can feel any binding. my front end took a shit on me and i can only replace a lil paycheck by paycheck. all my ball joints where shot my wheel hubs grind and driver side cv axle is makin a hell of a clank. so im gonna replace both sides to get it over with. 156 per wheel hub 50 ish per cv axle and i payed 25 a piece for lower ball joints and 40 for both upper control arms w/ball joints plus now i need an alignment due to the replacement of the upper control arms and them being slotted lol

I have the same problem only on a RWD model. I found the the idler arm and the pitman arm both were sloppy. I am replacing the wheel bearings, idler arm, pitman arm, ball joints and shocks this weekend. Mine only does it once in a while, but when it does I have to slow to almost a stop, then speed back up and it is gone.

Just to update, I did all of the above work and the wooble is gone. My idler arm and pitman arm both had a lot of play, as did the ball joints. With all the changes and the heavier shocks, it was like driving a new truck. I drove almost 1200 miles last week no wobble or play at all. By the way, thanks to some seafoam I was able to get my best mpg ever 21 mpg on the trip to Grand Rapids and back.
