I have a 97 EB 5.4L, it has a little over 150k.

My gf was driving it, and it was fine. She stopped the car to do something for our son, and when she turned it back on the 4low and Low Range lights came on, and haven't gone off. Ever since then the car has I'm assuming typical 4l behavior, but I've never been in that mode so I'm not positive.. I did check and there was a blown fuse that I fixed, but it didn't make any difference. I tried the recommended brake, neutral, switch fix.. that didn't help, and neither did driving it and going into neutral and back out.. When I do change the knob I don't hear any clicking or anything, but I'm not sure if I ever did. I have used the 4wd in the winters, but have never towed anything or been in 4H or 4L, and honestly don't even know what it's for but I'm assuming for towing.

One thing I noticed that I didn't think was normal was after it was stuck and I tried pulling the car out, making any kind of turn seemed like the back tires were almost stuck or had flat tires or like a frozen lsd? Not sure how to describe it... (after reading more, it sounds like this might be normal..)

Any suggestions?

Well I got it working.. not quite sure what fixed it though.

Last night I unplugged the battery to see if that would fix it, and it didn't.. still no clicks at all. This morning drove my other car and noticed the rear of the Expedition was all the way down, like the Klump family was sitting in the back... or there was zero suspension in the rear. I turned on the car and tried the suggested brake and neutral switch, and I hear clicking... and it worked. Then I drove the suv around the parking lot over a few bumps, and by the time I got back the rear was half back up.. I drove back out again and the rear was back to normal.

I have no idea what happened....

Usually going slow in reverse and then popping it in neutral will get you out of 4 low.
