Sun roof drain clogged

Hello,
New member here however will be around a lot more thanks to buying a 04 Expedition.

Today I pulled the headliner today due to the amount of water that was leaking down the passenger side A pilar and rear seat belt covers.

Have some questions:

1. I know the rear passenger side drain tube is clogged. I cannot blow air down into the hole by my mouth for sure. (Can on the rear driver side) I tried passing down some weed eater line and it stops quite a ways in, not sure if it is the terminating point or not. The line comes out wet as if water was standing in the line.

Have attempted to use can of computer air to no avail. Any other suggestions?

2. Around the sun roof glass, I can see daylight. I have read a lot online that sun/moon roofs are not 100% leak proof and I get that, hence the drain tubes and drip bar.
However, should I be able to see daylight?

Unfortunately, I am still dealing with the clogged line. Borrowed my neighbors compressor and attempted to blow out the line with no success. Attempted fishing some weedeater line down as well to no avail. I can blow a little bit of air in however it is not draining as fast as the other drains. Not sure what else I can try.

I paid for a subscription to Motorcraftservice and it was informative, but does not show the steps for replacing the drain tubes.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

It's sure looks tough to remove and reinstall the lines!!

I would guess that there is something hard (small pebble ?) may be stuck inside! Have you try reverse (blowing air with compressor or weed eater lines) from the under the body? Can you even reach it from under there? Not sure.

Sorry there is not a better suggestions for you as I have not encounter this!

Was not able to reach from underneath at all

Good news to report, my neighbor had a great idea. We took WD40 and sprayed down the tube and blew compressed air in and let it set. Then we took the drain tube, filled it with water, and used the air compressor and blew it out. Right away, more air was allowed in this time. We did the water and air 3 more times and the line is now completely clear.

Now onto replacing the seal around the sun roof. I can see daylight from around the seal so while I have everything down, I am going to replace that as well.

Thank you!! I just got my '03 last week and found a puddle on the drivers floor. I tried all the same steps you had initially tried with the same lack of success. I have a question though, were you able to find the ends of the drain tube under the truck?? I'm going to pull out the air compressor and dial up a few pounds and give it heck. I really don't want to blow the tubes off though and be forced to remove the trim and headliner to repair...so if you can answer my question about seeing the tube ends under the truck, it would be greatly appreciated!!

I use to use an old speedo cable on a drill. I would rotate real slow and light pressure. Cleaned it out every time. Follow on maintenance was spraying compressed air in the holes every time I washed it

Sorry for the delay. No I never was able to find the termination point. Frustrating as hell.

Quick update as I hate searching the internet and finding dead end threads. My headliner is still down. I just picked up my new sun roof seal on Friday. Last night, we removed the old and installed the new seal.

Good thing I read the workshop manual where it advised to use a rubber/plastic mallet. Was afraid of hitting the seal with the mallet but it is all that would work. Took some time to get it in place properly, but we got it.

Reinstalled the sunroof panel last night. The new seal made a huge difference. I was surprised how much difference it made as the old one looked like it was in pretty good shape. (No tears or cracks)

Will be reinstalling the headliner tonight/tomorrow.

Thanks for posting the pics...I'll go look at them after I reply. I went to work Saturday morning and removed the blue tarp and bricks, then opened the sunroof and saw that the water in the track was frozen! I started it up and let it run for an hour while I went downstairs to work on a GT750 I'm building.

An hour or so later I came back out and using a thin tube, injected a couple of ounces of WD40 in the two front drains then employed the "blowgun" connected to my air compressor set at 50PSI...nothing, more WD40 then air at 75PSI and within a few minutes, BINGO...both are clear and the WD40 dripping out below the truck! Needless to say, I'm thrilled that they cleared thanks to your help and that of others here.

It appears that then drain behind the front fender guards behind the front wheels as that's where the WD was dripping from. It may be that dirt gets in there and clogs the ends from draining but I won't know till I remove them to check.

I cannot find the rear drains though...did you find them RW? I searched and searched using a small extension mirror and still can't see them.

I looked at your pics and still can't be sure which of the lines, if any are the rear drains....can you point them out?

Great to hear!

I never found the rear drains. I uploaded 2 more pics to my album with arrows pointing to the drain lines in the pictures. The passenger side is missing the gamut to protect it as I was still working with the lines and hadn't reinstalled it.

Thanks for posting and pointing out the rear drains for me/us!! You da man! Hopefully I won't have to remove the headliner but at least I know where to look now. No wonder I couldn't find the rear drains, they appear to be integral with the rear of the track assembly and not reachable from above.
