Hello all,
I have been looking into supercharging my expedition for some time now. I have an 2006 Expedition Limited. Couple months ago I ran across this site and enjoyed reading some of these posts. I have not seen any info on 05 and 06 supercharging yet. I have yet to find info here yet, but have not looked everywhere yet.
I have had my eyes on a complete package for 04 lightning, brand new components I can get. I just want to be certain my year engine is ok for the mod. Is a 04 5.4 the same or different than an 06 5.4? Different valve engine? Etc....
I have not talked to anyone yet about this mod so I am looking for good information from knowledgable motor people.
I'll get to posting pics soon.
Thanks

It wont work on an 05 & up. They have the 3v heads and the lightning setup is for the 2v which is 04 and earlier.

Enlighten me PLZ

What is the difference? internal workings or actually physically mounting is all different. I would like some explaining why it will not work, not just it wont.
Thanks

internal since the lightning are 2V head specific...you have a 3V...my guess...it's like the diff between 4.6 and 5.4...internal...again...my guess

The heads and intake manifold are different on 3v motor vs 2v. The lightning lower intake designed for 2v motors will not mate up to your 3v heads.

I included photos of the lightning supercharger assembly and the lower intake by itself. It would be like bolting a 2v intake to a 3v motor. They just were not designed to work together. That said....if your willing to fabricate some adapters for the lower intake to the heads I am sure it could be done. I have seen lightnings do it with navigator 4v heads.

Well thats what I figured. Bolt patterns. I am just trying to save myself asking a million questions to wrenchers. Toms89 is it possible to change heads? Do you have any idea on the config. of the difference between the mounting for the heads. Would adapters be possible you think?

Not just the bolt pattern but the intake runners are different. I am sure adapters can be machined...just time and $$.

Found this....

It's possible to change the heads, but going from 3V to 2V is a step backwards IMO. If you want the PD set up I would look into something like the Edelbrock E-Force or Kenne Belle.

I very much agree!!!

Looking at the intake on the whipple set up I can tell you the runners are dramatically different. If you could manage to fab an adapter for a reasonable $$ it may save you a few bucks going with the lightning setup your considering. But it would save a lot of headaches and eventually you would want to upgrade to twin screw anyways vs roots. Twin screws kits available have more displacement and are more efficient.

The kits also supply everything needed for the swap. With the lightning setup.... you are responsible for the tune and gathering all the parts necessary not to mention zero warranty.

I hear you guys! Your input is really appreciated. Designing and machining is what I do, and projects like this are what push me to do what not many can. I'll have to really consider the options. Is $5-$6K worth 150 reliable HP.

I enjoy driving my truck, but man it sure would be nice having that extra that not too many have under the hood.
