tailgate paint bubbling on 2007

New guy here. I know this is a problem with the 2005-2007 tailgates & hoods.

Just had mine redone. The tailgate and hood are made of aluminum. The problem is the factory didn't use an epoxy primer. They shot it with steel primer. They don't cover it at all under any warranty.

I had to get the whole tailgate soda blasted, 2 part epoxy primered and painted. It is the only solution.

anyone else found a solution to this problem?

It is a problem on the 2009's too. I test drove an 09 and it had bubbling around the licence plate. The 09 I eventually purchased had the same thing. Thank goodness I noticed it and put it in the offer that it was to be fixed. They redid the whole tailgate......

When I hit 100k I want to get a newer one. Anyone else hear anything on the 2010 or 2011?

Mine is doing the same thing on rear liftgate and its also doing it on the roof of My expy which the roof aint aluminum explain that one? why is the paint so cheap on these? I work in rental cars and we had a 2011 expedition come in that the hatch and front bumper had paint bubbling and peeling off whats the deal?

I have same issue in my '07 EL and it is at 100K+. Fixed once and it is happening again, paint coming off as the bubbling move up the surface. May also have to do with the drain holes on the inside. A friend of mine recommended removing the plugs to allow air to get in and dry whatever moisture gets in there as that is where it all starts. Eventually, he says get a whole new liftgate as this will be a lifetime problem.

Had the same thing on my 07 only two years after I bought it. The dealership here in Iceland covered it totally. It is starting to show signs of the same on the hood now but since the warranty is no longer valid I guess that I will have to pay for it myself now.

I have a 2011 EL ,was in for service yesterday having driver window motor replaced and maintenance ,it has 27000 mile on it has 36/36bumper to bumper and premium extended I pointed out a small bubble to the service rep and got what I thick was a side step answer,"those can be tricky to fix and cost about a 1000 you be better to put nail polish on it and just live with it" so I got online to see if there was a way to fix it and stumbled across this site seems I am not the only one with bubbles though it doesn't make me feel any better,I did like what I read about it should be covered under the bumper to bumper 36/36 warranty but I would thick the service rep would have known that and made a better recommendation than nail polish any suggestions as to how I should proceed?

Looks Like CRYSTAL at FoMoCo is calling for you! Otherwise. I would see the Service Manager or General Manager of the dealer. If this did not satisfy you needs then the New Car Warranty Book has instructions on how to escalate your claim through Ford. I am making the assumption that your warranty in Ireland is similar to the U.S.'s. I would never take one service writer's word for being final when my money and my vehicle is at state. I do not think I have ever seen nail polish as a remedy for anything except skeeter bites.
