Tcase issue

My 99 AWD Expy . Had an issue , it wouldn't unlock out of AWD in the Tcase . So I simply unplugged the brown wire and taped it off . Since then I had the tranny go out ; I had it rebuilt and reinstalled . Now it seems any time I switch knob to engage 4X4 on all surfaces it has a ( I would call it roar or heavy mechanical turning sound ) anyone had a similar experience ? Really would like to hear about it . Thanks Flubie66

My 97 is noticeably louder when the 4X4 is on. It was concerning to me until I drove a GMC Jimmy and it does the same thing as my Expedition. So just assuming it's normal on the older 4X4's.
