temp gauge pegged out on hot

shortly after my battery died on my 97 expedition all of my gauges pegged out they were all reading fine before my batery died they are all reading normal now except my temp gauge its saying the engine is hot as soon as the car starts up im confused on how

Did you unplug the harness from the sensor and see if your temp gauge drops back to full cold ? Most likely just a bad cylinder head temp sensor. Move the alternator out of the way and you can get to it.
