I have a 2010 Eddie Bauer Expedition, right now it has the stock 255/70/18's on it. I was wondering if I could run 265/70/18's on the factory wheels and not have any issues with fitment. Also will it affect the computer in the vehicle at all ? Thanks for any info.

Thanks for that info, the calculator is a big help. It looks like it would be even better if I was to run a 275/65/18.

I'm running the Michelin LTX M/S 2's in 265/70R18 and no problems. I little firmer than the 255 perrelli tires but not harsh. They were nice driving back from Disney land in a crazy storm a week ago.

Here they are after installation...

I don't mind if it rides firmer, I'm use to driving around in my F250. These perrellis are like driving around on sponges..lol

I'm installing my 3/2 lift next weekend, and I'm torn for what
Tire size I want to run. Considering 275/70 18 or 295/70 18. Basically 33.3 or 34.4 I think either will fit with the lift. I think I will like the look of the 34 better, however does anyone have any experience with a tire this size with the 6 speed trans? How much rpm will I lose at 70. I have a tuner so I can adjust tire size. Just a little worried about it shifting up on every hill I come to.

I will be able to answer that question in a few days. I ordered a set of 275/70/18 Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs for my completely stock 07 Expedition 4x4. They are only 1.1" taller and 0.7" wider than stock, so I am not worried about them rubbing. I guess I will look pretty stupid if I am wrong! We shall see.

Have the lift, just haven't done the tires...YET! I'm heading towards 295 or 305/70r17, haven't made up my mind yet. Probably stay with the 295's so I don't have to shave the running boards.

I had the 275/70/18 Duratracs put on today. Good news... THEY DON'T RUB!!! The guys at the tire shop all said that they were gonna rub and they were hesitant to put the tires on because they thought I wouldn't be able to drive it home. I told them I would pay to mount the tires and it was on me if they rubbed. Yeah, I was a little nervous, but they fit perfectly!

With the Expy on level ground and the steering wheel at full lock, there is exactly 1" of clearance in the tightest spot (the front portion of the fenderwell).

In order to test the clearance with the suspension compressed, I drove off-camber across a drainage ditch so that my back-left and front-right tires were off the ground and I could easily rock the Expy back and forth. I turned the wheel to full lock and the front-left tire still had about 1" of clearance all the way around the fenderwell. The top of the back-right tire tucked inside the top of the fenderwell just behind the outside lip of the fender, but I could still slide my hand all the way around between the tire and fenderwell.

Bottom line, I can't make these tires rub, but I don't think I could go any larger without a lift kit. This truck looks completely different with these tires on it. I love it!

Btw, I have pictures if someone can tell me how to post them.

If you are talking about my black Expedition in the above pics, I do not have air suspension. You are right that I do not have a lift kit. The truck is completely stock except for the new tires.

As I described above, the last photo was taken when I drove the truck off-camber through a drainage ditch so that the back-left tire was completely off the ground and the back-right tire (in-photo) is bearing all the weight of the rear axle. In the pic the tire has 60psi, yet notice how the sidewall is flexing due to all of the weight on the tire.

I did this to test whether or not the tires would rub when offroading, and the tires never came closer than 1" from touching any part of the truck. After further testing, it seems that the tires will perform and wear optimally at 50psi all around (I did the chalk test to find the appropriate tire pressure as described at http://www.fourwheeler.com/techarticles/wheels/129_1204_4x4_tire_pressure_pointers/index.html I plan to do further pressure testing as the tires break in, but 50psi seems just about right.

Also, the truck was lifted exactly 1" at all four corners just from installing the taller tires. I measured the fender height at all four corners before and after installing the new tires. I also measured the distance from the center of the differentials to the ground, and I gained exactly 1" of lift there as well. I only expected 1/2" of lift since the manufacturer specs said that the 255/70/18 Pirellis are 32.1" tall and the 275/70/18 Goodyears are 33.2" tall. I think this is due the fact that the tread on the Pirellis was about half worn down when I took measurements, and also the different manufacturer specs may vary a little bit.

If you have any other questions, just ask. I hope this is a resource to 3rd generation Expy owners who want to install bigger tires. My advice is to stick with 275/70/18s if you don't want to trim the running boards or the fenderwells. A lift kit would give your more clearance from the top of the tire to the bottom of the fenders, but you don't really need more clearance there anyways.

Did you notice any Change in rpm at highway speed?

I haven't recalibrated my speedometer, so I don't know exactly how many rpms I have lost at highway speed. According to the calculator on the first page of this thread, when my speedo reads 65mph I am actually driving 67.24mph. My speedo changes about 100 rpm for every 2mph or so change in 6th gear, so I guess I have lost about 100 rpm in 6th. My Expy has 3.73 gears, so losing a few rpms is not big deal. I can't tell any performance loss with the bigger tires. I think if I had done a before and after 1/4 mile test, I would have found that I lost a tiny bit of acceleration (I am saying this just based upon the laws of physics that it takes longer for x amount of torque to spin heavier object). However, the truck "feels" just as powerful as it did before, so that is really all that matters.

I haven't noticed any drop in mpg yet, but I haven't driven enough miles to say definitively. The one noticeable difference is that my truck's handling is not as responsive as it was with the street tires. I think I know what people mean by "tread squirm" now. Whenever I make a sharp turn, my tires take a moment to respond and feel a little spongy. I tried increasing the tire pressure, but this didn't help any beyond 50psi. There is also a noticeable increase in body roll, but hey, I didn't buy an Expedition and put offroad tires on it to run around an autocross track!

One other thing is that I was shocked at how little noise the Duratracs make for a fairly aggressive offroad tire. I can hear a slight hum from 40-60mph, but I can barely hear it anymore when I turn the a/c all the way up. If I turn the radio on a low volume, I can't hear the tires at all.
