To service transmission or not??

I have a 2007 expedition 2wd. It has approximately 338,000 miles on it. As far as I know the transmission has never been serviced. It does have a 2-3 shift flare occasionally. Should I drop the pan an change fluid and filter or just drive it till it dies??

What does the fluid look like?

Isn't that they year that came with a pair of X-ray goggles, hence no dipstick needed, hahahaha.....

I don't know for sure about the older Fords/Expy's (both my '011 EL & my son's '09 Impala has one), but I know some more recent model year vehicles came without dipsticks, like my wife's '17 Acadia, which clearly states in the owners manual "this vehicle is equipped with a permanently lubed & sealed transmission"

The 07 has that yellow handled short dipstick that sits on the passenger side of the trans. Have had to pull that out many times when I had my 07.

When my 07 started having shifting issues I was at 233,000 miles. Changed the fluid and filter with motorcraft, issue stopped for about a month and came back. I say drive it until it dies.

My '07 Lincoln Navigator L doesn't have a dipstick. When I did the timing work two years ago, I removed the front end, i.e. bumper, grill, condenser, coolant radiator, transmission fluid cooler, etc. to do the work on the engine. The transmission fluid was deep brown towards black. I lost a lot of fluid as it dripped from the open circulation lines that go from transmission to the fluid cooler and the fluid cooler itself. ... Damn, what a time not to have a dipstick. When I put it all back together, I refilled the transmission with three quarts of Motorcraft / Mercon SP through the top inlet of the fluid cooler. Whether I refilled the transmission system with the right amount or not, I'm unsure. I understand the 6-speed 6HP26 transmission requires 11.1 quarts of fluid. During the past two years, I have had no issues with the transmission. However, when I go down my long steep driveway and then down the steep street, the transmission seems to stay in low gear longer than I think it should. I don't know if the gear hesitation is caused by low or high fluid levels and/or cooler temperatures.
