Some of us just know firearms and what they truly are capable of...this isn't TV or the movies. Did you know there are common handgun rounds that will bounce off a windshield, heavy leather coats...

No damage other than the rim? Whatever it was went through and through so could hurt something else.

I would tend to think it was not a bullet also. Unless you were close enough to actually hear the shot or see the shooter isn't that powerful, you would pretty much have to shoot it from close range to go through the center of a rim like that but it all depends what type of ammo and what caliber of gun they were using.
My concern was totally in fixing the rim as that's a simple repair for I will shop with no reason to ever be concerned about it in the future. It's not even Road Rash or a cracked off lip. A simple repair like that on the inside just to weld it up so it does not leak there is a cakewalk.
I would highly doubt any average handgun round shooting a tire from over 40 feet away would have the ability to go clean through the rim like that. It would penetrate the tire and bent the rim but you would find the bullet inside the wheel.

I did not hit anything. I passed three guys in front of the projects at 2:00 am and BAM my tire went flat. The three guys scattered.
I cant prove it was a bullet because I did not find the slug. Just like if I wake up and find snow on the ground I cant prove it snowed because I did not see it snow. I just assume that it snowed because that is the most probable explanation. BOTH wheel places I took it to said it was a bullet hole and both said they had experience fixing bullet damage in Memphis. Both places made that bullet diagnosis before I told them my story.
Those on this forum that speculate about other possible road hazards causing the issue can guess away.

Bottom line is that it was just one weird effing situation where a bullet doesn't seem that crazy. The fact that it didn't do worse damage or hit your vehicle at even the slightest different angle is kind of like finding out that San Diego in German mean's "a whale's ******". It's just amazing.
