Anyone know how to manually force the update to the trailer module that is part of the recall? Besides going to the dealership? I was towing the boat to the lake this weekend and it threw some error codes about lights and then did hyperflash on the turn signals after unhooking. After a restart it was fine again.

Presumably we are talking the same thing here:

I surely do not know how to force it and am surprised it's taking Ford so long to OTA it. Might dealers like the delay to get customers into their service clutches bays?

Well i do my own oil changes and tire rotates, maybe this is a good enough reason to take it in for a mutlipoint inspection and have them update the software. I'm only at 11k miles

I just got my notice about this in the mail Friday. I feel like I read somewhere that the update wasn't even going to be available until sometime in May. I'm also wondering if anyone has ever successfully had something download OTA? The backup camera recall was supposed to do that, but mine never has, and I did take it to the dealer, and they tried multiple times unsuccessfully to get it to update, so I have to take it back.

My vehicle was in for routine service last week, service tech checked and said it wouldn’t be available until sometime in May.

Our dealer's service dept. schedule a tech to come to our house (30 min drive from dealer) and he pushed it, so I don't think it's an over the air (OTA) option. I think he had to push it through the computer port (OBD-II port "On-Board Diagnostics").

I don't know that but I had mine done at the dealership yesterday. I was there for about 1 1/2 hrs but they also took care of a update on the module that controls the 3rd row power seat as well and did the ever present multi-point check and topped off fluids. Just a thought. CJDave.

Ford so funny. Says "Ready to install" and then you have to read the "fine print" to learn that "No further action is required."

Thanks for posting--I will look for it.

Unfortunately, there is no way to force an OTA trigger from the server. The only way to (safely) install module updates on demand is with FDRS.

I had to look that up. A dealer-only tool I guess:

"Ford Diagnostic & Repair System (FDRS) - The next generation dealer diagnostic software. The factory Ford Motor Company vehicle diagnostic Software designed for use with Ford VCM II, VCMM and J2534 compatible Interfaces."

Yea....sorry I didn't elaborate more on that. I've have everything for FDRS for years, so I tend to forget not everyone is familiar with it.

Coincidentally, a Ford mobile tech was at my dealer today since we took a Navigator in on trade and it had a recall that needed to be done before we can resell it. I asked him if he could do the update for me and he hooked it up.
