So I'm towing my pt cruiser using my 05 expy.

Overdrive on or off?

It's all highway with some exceptions. 1,100 miles from FL to PA.

Thanks!

Overdrive on for the regular flat highway driving part. I'd turn it off for really hilly parts or where you'll be accelerating hard.

wow....thats a nice haul. i TOW cars, its my job everyday......you better worry about the dollies wheels, ive never used dollies for more then 20-30 miles. by the way.... im going from new jersey to daytona....1011 miles then switch to rental from daytona to miami and back to daytona...thats saving me like 700 miles or more on my truck in that heat in july......gl on trip.

I towed my neon with my Colorado from Michigan to Atlanta ga (800mi) with a uhaul dolly. If it's a uhaul dolly make sure it has good tires on it. I've also towed my silverado with a tow dolly behind a dodge ram cummins 330mi. Hope that gives you a little confident / reassurance with the distance.
I agree with tonydiv as well.

very good advice. CHECK THE WHEELS. A friend and I towed a durango about 40 miles before we realized the shaking from the dolly was because a wheel was about to come off! all the lugs were loose!

Is it a flatbed dolly or the one that just holds 2 of the wheels? If it just holds 2 wheels don't forget to remove the driveshaft to the wheels that will be spinning. I've also towed other cars with their 2/4 wheel dollies and they smooth out at about 65 MPH and up :flamingdevil:.

One thing I do now is when you start to get into hilly areas is take off cruise control and accelerate without downshifting before the hill and just let the hill eat up some speed then gain it back when you are over it so you aren't switching gears all the time and you don't loose the extra fuel being in a higher gear.

pt cruiser is front wheel drive no need to remove the driveshaft as long as you put the front axle on the dolly
