Transfer Case Completely Cracked?

So I took my front drive shaft out a while ago so I could do a burnout...recently I put it back in, and I started driving with it in, turned the wheel a bit(not sure if that was the exact reason or what) and the transfer case bound up and has a humongous crack in it. Fluid went everywhere and it goes like a few feet before being totally bound up and not going any further.


Tonight me and my friends took the rear drive shaft and transfer case out all in all. So I need a new T case this week but I am wondering: did taking my FDS out and doing a few (a shit ton) of burnouts fry some bearing or coupling in the T case, and so when I put the FDS back in, did the load of the front axle just blow something?

And when I get a new T case, do I have to do anything to it before I put it in? Besides a new gasket and new ATF when its in, can I just bolt up my original FDS and let it run, or do I have to do something with viscous couplings...I was just reading some stuff on frying viscous couplings and am not sure if I will be doing that by trying to fix my mess.

Yeah taking that out and making it spin without a front drive shaft definitely could have messed something up. That is putting a lot of stress on the t case. You shouldn't have a problem when you put your new t case in as long as you fill it with the correct fluid and make sure everything is bolted right AND put the front drive shaft in before you drive it. You can reuse the gasket too if it isn't completely messed up.

Yeah taking that out and making it spin without a front drive shaft definitely could have messed something up. That is putting a lot of stress on the t case. You shouldn't have a problem when you put your new t case in as long as you fill it with the correct fluid and make sure everything is bolted right AND put the front drive shaft in before you drive it. You can reuse the gasket too if it isn't completely messed up.

Thanks a lot yeah ill be sure to install and fill everything up before I do anything. I think the gasket is pretty jacked just because it seems glued onto the trans case, hasn't been touched in almost 14 yrs lol.

The problem with doing that is that the magnetic clutch in the t-case was still engaged and therefore the t-case was still trying to do its job. Look into the brown wire mod so that you don't run into the same problem in the future. And burnouts will work a lot better haha.

I won't be doing any more burnouts lol so I probably won't need to look into the brown wire mod I imagine. I am just gonna be replacing the trans case and filling everything back up with ATF and leaving it the **** alone lol. This was a big mess and I want nothing like it again.
