Ok, so my wife is driving our '97 eb around 45 mph when suddenly the transfer case drops into 4 low all on its own, without moving the switch, and has too drive home in 4 low. When I get home before starting it I see the switch is set to 2wd, I start the truck and the 4x4 low range indicator light on the dash is on. I asked Heather if the low range light was on when she drove home and she says no! Now the switch is still set to 2wd mind you. So I put it in drive and can feel the trans shift into drive and by the lurch forward I can tell its in 4 low, then when I put it in neutral the transfer case switches back to 2wd on its own! Now with a test drive the transfer case runs through the gears normally, awd engages normally, 4 high normal, 4 low normal. Now I'm a bit worried, what if she was going 80? Could this be a symptom of the transfer case gear motor going bad? let me know what you think...thanks

wow. never heard of that happening but good thing she didnt have to drive far or at a high rate of speed, you would be buying a new tranny! it sounds like there could a problem with the switch, like a short or something. or maybe a short with the motor.
