be careful what you ask for. got my tranny flushed and within two weeks, it was screwed up and needed a valve body (at 55k miles), two weeks after that it blew up and need a whole new tranny. seems like if it's work, don't mess with it, more likely you'll introduce issues.
My dealer only drained and filled up 10 quarts. I drove over 10k miles since the fluid change and it shifts really good. Did your dealer hook up to a machine and flush the fluid out?

i have no idea what they did, but it quickly went downhill. after the new tranny everything is fine, but it was a joke.

I've had the same or similar issue twice since I got my 2019 Platinum. I was accelerating from 35mph to go faster up an Interstate ramp. The vehicle sort of went into a stall mode while rpms went up, then bucked into whatever gear it was trying to downshift to. This only happened after I forgot to reset my Tranny re-learning mode. I narrowed it down to, for me, it was learning my weird driving habits, where one day I'm Grandma, the other day I'm Mario. So, I researched and read on a forum where that could cause weird tranny habits and to disable learn mode or reset more frequently. So, I did and have never had the issue again. The downside for me is I had to relearn that giving too much gas off the line is way faster than before and it is more like having a shift kit installed which causes tighter and faster shifting. But after the first week I was used to the more aggressive tranny default setting.

That is interesting Mr Big:

I actually never knew there was any trans/shift learning by these Expy's or on Transits, either. I just thought it was what it was from the factory unless they were re-programmed by the Ford Dealership. I will read up on that to learn more myself. Thanks, Lance

Took my 2020 into the dealer for a couple issues. One was transmission shifting badly into 3,5,7-8, etc. Got word today that the tech confirmed the issues and they are "doing a complete overhaul." I'm about 7,000miles away from the end of our warranty so pretty happy they are doing it.

Hey 500LiterMin.

That's great news that Ford stepped up to the plate and honored your warranty before "it was on you". That would have been a BIG HIT!

Do you mind me asking how many miles you had on your Expy? I just bought a 2023 and want to keep an eye on how long these Expy trans' are lasting. I read (but can't remember) about the earlier 10 speeds having trans issues but I don't know when those early issues were corrected and resolved, in the newer Expys? I was thinking that those early 10 speed issues were corrected in 2022 or 2023 but, NOT positive? I am hoping that the rest of our Expy's also go on lasting as well as everything did in our 2012 Expy that this 2023 replaced. Best of luck with your dealership trans overhaul.

One last question: Once they overhaul your 2020 trans, does that overhauled trans warranty expire in 7000 miles, as well? Let me know on this. Thanks, Lance

Hey, No idea on the warranty yet. We bought it CPO when it had around 60,000 miles. Previous to us it had some work done with the valve body or solenoids. About 10,000 miles after we got it it kept popping out of gear and had to get redone. I don't have the paperwork in front of me but it did take them around 6 weeks to fix it. Also, our 2018 had the transmission replaced with a new one around the 70,000 mile mark. These transmissions are not stellar.

I think the whole “learns your driving habits” is incredibly stupid to begin with. It may be real to an extent, but what is the point of it? It should respond to driver inputs on the throttle, not what the computer thinks is best.

Even if it is a legit “feature”, you should always get max power to the ground if you floor it. The learning mode should only effect part throttle input at most.

Thanks 500LiterMin:

Well, hopefully Ford steps up to the plate and gets your trans fixed under warranty, as it should be done. From the reading that I have done on here and other Forums, these 10 speeds were problematic but I was thinking this was resolved by Ford a couple of years back. I guess I will see how ours does in a couple of years or so. Thanks.

Yep, jjscsix:

I am in agreement about a trans learning mode being kind of stupid and totally unnecessary too. In the past, the Ford trans' were controlled by the throttle response and driver input but maybe the Ford 'brainchildren' figured this was some way of emission control or something else they thought was needed but still aggravating for us users/consumers. Who knows? In the case of our 2024 Expy, that we just bought, our trans seems to be working perfectly. I like that it always keeps the EcoBoost in its power band too. This 2024 EcoBoost Expy would outrun our 2012 Expy (that was a V8, 6 Speed), any day of the week. Thanks for your thoughts here, Lance
