Got a 1999 Expedition with 5.4L engine, 2WD. I'm trying to figure out what type of tranny fluid I need. It's specific for the type of tranny, which could be a 4R70W or 4R100 according to my owner's guide. It could be a 4R70W or E40D according to my Hayne's manual. Depending on which tranny it is , it uses Mercon V ATF or general Mercon ATF. I called the parts department of my local dealer, and even they were unsure after I gave them the VIN. I want to make sure I'm using the correct fluid. Any hints out there to determine the actual tranny I have? It's not posted on the tranny pan or on the decals on the driver side door or engine. Please help.
