Ok, my 98 Exped needs inspected, so I have let it sit for about a month or so. Two weeks ago, the battery was dead. I'm not sure if it was because I haven't driven it for a while, plus I have had the hatch open for long periods of time. OR if the windshield was leaking again and perhaps it shorted a connector and drained the battery (I read that on here somewhere in one of the water leak threads).

Anyway, I pulled the battery and put it on the charger. I was ready to take it to the garage that is going to be working on it. My friend has a Commercial garage and I have been waiting for him to get his left cleared. He has done the exhaust stud repair many times. I put the battery on and it starts right up. Here is the part that sucks.

While driving, anytime the RPMs are between 1k and 2k, AND MY FOOT IS ON THE GAS, the whole truck shakes like crazy. Once I get above 2k, it runs fine. It is very difficult to keep it above 2k. It did not do this before I parked it for that month. Well it did a quick shudder a couple times, which I thought was a bad coil. It will do it in any gear, at any speed, it is definately RPM driven. Also, if I take my foot off the gas, even under 2k, it is fine.

The only other thing I could figure out, is that 4x4 works fine, but A4WD just flashes on the dash.

Is it my torque convertor?

On the way, after driving about an hour, I stopped for gas, and the battery wouldn't let it start back up, even with a jump.

sounds like the altinator is going bad after you charge the battery load test it if bad replace it then get the alt load tested if bad repace it too. injectors need 12-15 volts to operate corectly lower voltage will give poor performance

The battery that I bought it with was bad. It would run when I jumped it, but not re-start on its own. So I traded it in to the junk yard for one they pulled from a vehicle. I knew it wasn't the best, but it tested ok so I spent the $15 plus gave them my old one. I was just going to buy a brand new battery now. Are you saying I shouldn't do that yet? The alternator was replaced a couple thousand miles ago by the department I bought it from.

I assume I have to remove it to have it tested at Advance Auto or one of those places?

So you are thinking that at 2k RPMs my voltage is high enough to work the injectors properly?

I have not gotten a CEL. I wonder if it even works correctly. Is there a test or something I can do that will certainly throw a code and turn the light on?

if you unplug the mass air flow sensor the wires that go to the ait cleaner housing then start the truck it will set the light
also if you turn the key to the on position the light should go on too

Apparently the battery is ok and not the cause of it not starting. My buddy said he jumped the solenoid and all it does is click, but the starter won't engage. He said it seems like there is a security system that blocks the starter, but as far as I know there isn't. It was a police vehicle, but it has always just started for me.

This may be stupid, but could it be the chip in the key? What would it do if that were bad?

Well the not starting issue was that the starter housing was rusted through. That has been replaced.
