What did you do to the expy today

You replaced the insane Ford OEM lug nuts with ... OEM lug nuts? Is that a good idea? I was under the impression that solid stainless steel Gorilla brand lug nuts was the ticket. I plan to do that to save myself the potential aggravation of those insane Ford OEM skinned lug nuts failing at a bad time. Expensive BUT, a pound of prevention is worth an ounce of cure.

When I started shopping for a new set, I immediately noticed the flaw in the design of the OEM lugs and later read about the lawsuit against Ford as well. I did very briefly consider replacing them with something better. Then I thought about how many times I've had a lug fail in 23 years of driving (zero) and opted to stick with OEM. If I replaced every piece of my Ford that was prone to failure due to shoddy design, I'd be driving a Toyota.

Gonna pull the plug and call Brian @fordtechmakuloco & have him deal with fixing the exhaust leak on the exhaust manifold, I don't have the right tools or the patients to drill out 3 steel bolts inside an aluminum block with cramped working space!

Cast Iron Block* Aluminum Heads. Yeah it doesn’t sound like an easy job!

What year Expy?
Any advice, I'm going to have to do mine soon … on "Rusty" , my 2003 Expy

It was for a 99 expedition.

I got one from a scrapyard in pretty good condition. Buying it new it was just insane.

The tricky part is you need to remove the wheel well mud guard molding to be able to pull it out.

It took me about two hours because the metal gear clamps were rusted and I had to go buy a new one.

I think that’s their proper name for the type of clamp where you turn the screw and the clamp gets progressively tighter around a pipe.

If I had to do it again I would have purchased the thick rubber hose that goes from the gas tank filler nozzle to the gas tank.

I've started spraying mine with corrosion inhibitor ... But its going.

Rusty is having a little race between the various parts as to what will put it in the junkyard. It can't be the gas tube.

You are right hose clamps.

I should have mentioned the replacement part had surface rust.

So I took out my orbital sander and sanded the rust off and then the only thing I had available to cover it was Tremclad black rust paint.

But the vehicle doesn’t have much time left the rest is moving pretty fast. If I get another year or two out of it I will be happy. Not bad for a 20+ year old vehicle.

My last SUV was finally done in by the suspension. It rusted to the point where most of it had to be replaced. Somehow I managed to get $2,600 for it, which was awesome considering I paid $9,800 9 years prior. New owner just seemed thrilled that the engine/tranny were in great shape and said he would replace all the suspension parts himself.

Drove it around, put in new GPS antenna. No A/C windows down all day, got new FoMoCo compressor and belt still waiting on other parts.

Ordered yet another gps antenna..... this time from ford. The second one from infotainment.com lasted about 2 days and has failed.

Packed it to drive to Alsip IL tomorrow.
Will have dinner at Pepe's Mexican Restaurant.

1378 miles .. 16.9 MPG .. 87 octane .. 5.4 Super V8 Powerhouse

Before installing yet another gps antenna for sh*ts and giggles I used foam tape to tape this one to the underside of dash panel (right up at the top) and now it’s working......not sure why 2 inches made the difference. Guess I’ll be returning the ford one.
