What does this go to?

We've been running errands all week in my '03 Ford Expedition and have used the rear lift gate alot. After one of these trips, I found this broken plastic clip resting on the rear bumper. I think it fell off of the trim around the rear lift gate or the rear gate itself. It looks so familiar but I can't place it. Does anyone know what this is for?

Nevermind...As soon as I posted this, the lightbulb came on. This is a nylon insert for the rear license plate screws.

Success! Went to the auto parts store. Found the closest fit of the available Dorman license plate nylon nuts I could find. Had to slightly modify them by drilling out the center screw hole with a 13/64 drill bit so that the license plate screw would fit and grab. All is well.
