I have a 2000 Ford EB Expedition Triton V8 5.4L,

My Expedition has been running Good, other than needing new tires (which is causing a shake here and there) it runs pretty good. Well that was until 2 days ago. Day 1: starts idiling rough and I notice my gas mileage seems to not so normal to me, when the car is in park sounded almost like it was misfiring! Day 2: Driving about 30 minutes no issues, then while on a semi busy road come to a stop light. vehicle starts idiling really hard, I can feel truck shaking while foot is on brake, go to take off and here this loud, unusual sound (kind of hard to describe really) like a pop I guess. then my RPMs went crazy, wouldnt go over 35mph and started making a LOUD ticking sound. Pulled over at a gas station shut it off, for about 2 minutes. When I restarted my Expedition it made almost like a hissing sound and then drove normal for a few miles, then started the loud ticking again, then my service engine soon light came on.

Took the vehicle to autozone, they did a diagnostic on it, came up with either o2 sensor, spark plugs, MAP, ERG. Changes all the above plus did an oil change. No change in the vehicle still making a LOUD squeal/tick sound. Now has a bit of a backfire sound to it!!!

Can anyone give me ANY advice?? Thank You in Advance!!!!!

What were the code numbers?

Can you trace the sound with a stethoscope? If it's from the valve cover, it could be a lash adjuster or a follower (rocker).

If it's from the timing cover, it could be something to do with the chains, guides and tensioners.

I assuming that you didn't run into a blown out plug when you changed the plugs.
