I was posting this to help others recently I replaced my transmission it was a nightmare to figure out which one I had between 4r70w 4r75w 4r75e so this is what I figured out my vin number told me nothing about my transmission what I did find out is the 10th position in my door jamb sticker is what tells that its under ,TR mine says ,W ,its a 2004 my wife's is a 2003 her TR is ,U.. we both have 5.4 2v vin 8th position L ,I found out that her expedition has a 4r70w my 2004 expedition has a 4r75w the case number on mine is different it says RF-3L3P-2006-AA when I search that number all I come up with was 4r75e transmissions I found out that both these transmissions use the same case but internal parts are mostly the same jest few different thats why the rebuild kits work for all 3 transmissions the main visual difference between the 4r75w and the 4r75e is the 2nd sensor located jest above where the shifter selector is the 4r75w will have a plate covering that hole where the second sensor will be on the 4r75e so it only has the the sensor toward the back of the transmission, this is on the drive side of the vehicle the 4r70w will not have a hole with a plate on it it will only have one sensor hole in the back. Hope this helps someone with their transmission identification the Pics I included is of a 4r75w transmission that has the sensor hole cover. 20250518_122314.jpg20250518_122350.jpg20250518_122420.jpgT20250518_122314.jpg20250518_122350.jpg20250518_122420.jpg

The plate on the 4R75W vs the sensor on the 4R75E is not something I was aware of and was not identified in our recent identification threads. Thanks for that, very good info.

Here's what we had recently that will also help identify the trans.

Several of us compared the transmission ID tag recently and identified that our 2004 models had the 4R75 which certainly surprised me. My tag is 4L1P-DA. Anyway this list of model numbers might help if there's any question on the trans identification.

This is just a pic of a trans from a 4wd I snagged from eBAY to figure out where the tag was located.
